Your tasks for Lesson 1

Three steps to finish the lesson. They check off by themselves as you go — the golden rule: a bead only counts when it touches the beam.

1. Watch the lesson video Watch Ms. Yuki's lesson to the end (or almost — 90% is enough). Step 1
2. Practice on the soroban trainer Finish 5 “Type the number” challenges below — right or wrong, every try counts. Step 2
3. Pass the Lesson 1 quiz Five questions. Get 4 or 5 right to pass and complete Lesson 1. Step 3
Lesson 1 complete — great work! Your Soroban journey has begun. Lesson 2 unlocks with Level 1 at launch.

Practice on the soroban

This is your practice soroban — just like the one in the video. Tap beads to slide them. A bead works only when it touches the beam: the top bead is worth 5, each bottom bead is worth 1. The marked column on the right is the ones column.

Type the number — set it on the ones column

Use the ones column (the marked one, on the right), then press “Check”.

Correct: 0 Tries: 0 Challenges done: 0 / 5

Reading tip from Ms. Yuki: five first — then the little ones. That's how fast readers do it.

Daily practice — 5 minutes
A little bit every day beats a lot once a week. Start the timer and play on the soroban until it rings.
